How to refresh an apartment without major renovation

When owners of tourist accommodation think about refreshing their apartments, the first association is often construction work, replacing floors, new ceramics, or a complete renovation of the space.

But sometimes the biggest change doesn't come from the biggest interventions.

Sometimes, a few carefully chosen elements are enough for a space to acquire a completely new character.

We had the opportunity to realize just such a project in Biograd na Moru, where the owner of a property with nine apartments decided to refresh the bedrooms and further enhance his guests' experience.

The goal was not to completely renovate the apartments

The apartments were tidy and functional, but the owner wanted to elevate the overall impression of the space.

In addition to new beds, wardrobes, and curtains, he was looking for a solution that would give the rooms warmth, character, and visual identity, without requiring major construction work.

It was particularly important to him how the rooms would look in photos that potential guests browse on platforms like Booking.

In the world of tourist accommodation, the first impression today is very often created precisely through photographs.

And it is precisely the details that often decide whether a guest will open an ad or skip it.

Each room got its own identity

Four motifs from the Walls with Souls collection were selected for the project:

  • Free Interpretation

  • Serenity Blooms

  • Leaves and Lines

  • Falling Leaves

Although they differ from each other, all motifs have something in common.

They are inspired by nature, use soft tones, and create a pleasant atmosphere without imposing on the space.

The goal was not for the wallpaper to become the dominant element of the room. Quite the opposite.

We wanted it to naturally blend into the interior and contribute to the feeling of peace, comfort, and rest that guests expect during their stay.

The project begins before the wallpaper production itself

As with any project, the process did not begin with wallpaper production.

The client provided us with photos and dimensions of the walls, after which we created visualizations for each position.

Visualizations allow one to see how the motif will look in the actual space before production, and to adjust the size and arrangement of elements as needed.

During the project, we went through various proposals and adjustments together to ensure that each motif best matched the wall dimensions and the character of each room.

It is precisely at this stage that decisions are often made that later make the difference between an average and a carefully designed interior.

Small change, big impact

After production, the wallpaper was installed in all nine apartments.

Although this is a relatively simple intervention compared to a complete renovation, the final change was very noticeable.

Spaces that were previously neutral gained additional depth, warmth, and personality.

The wallpapers became a natural extension of the new furniture and other interior elements, connecting everything into a harmonious whole.

What apartment owners can learn from this project

For tourist accommodation, it is not always necessary to undertake a major renovation for the space to look fresher and more appealing.

Often, it is the thoughtful details that make the biggest difference.

Wallpaper behind the headboard can become an element that gives the space identity, improves the impression in photos, and provides guests with a more pleasant stay experience.

And such changes are often the most cost-effective.

Because with a relatively small intervention, they can significantly enhance the way guests perceive the space.

And that's why we like projects like this one. Not because they are large. But because they show how thoughtful design can change the perception of a space without the need for major renovation.
