Waterproof Wallpaper in Hotel Meteor's Wellness Center: A Blend of Design and Durability
During the renovation of the Balance Mediterranean Spa Center at Hotel Meteor in Makarska, a common challenge in hospitality projects arose.
How to protect walls in areas exposed to water daily while maintaining a completely personalized space design?
The classic solution would be ceramic tiles. They are durable, easy to maintain, and have been the standard in wellness centers for years. However, in this case, there was another important desire: to create a unique visual identity for the space that would follow the wellness center's concept and contribute to the guest experience.
That is why a solution that has been increasingly appearing in hotels, wellness centers, and spa areas in recent years was chosen: waterproof fiberglass wallpapers.
When the wall becomes part of the experience
Wellness center guests do not remember the type of wall or the material it is made of.
They remember the feeling of the space. They remember the atmosphere. They remember how they felt during their stay.
That is why in modern wellness and hotel projects, it is important that every element of the space contributes to the overall experience.
In the Balance Mediterranean Spa Center, the motif was not used as a decoration added at the end of the project. It became an integral part of the space's identity and an element that connects the architecture, lighting, materials, and atmosphere of the wellness center into a single whole.
Challenge: water resistance without sacrificing design
Areas next to sinks and treatment rooms are exposed to water, moisture, and frequent maintenance daily.
In such situations, investors most often choose ceramics or walls protected with special washable coatings. Such solutions are highly functional but often limit the ability to create a completely customized visual identity for the space.
Fiberglass wallpapers allow for a different approach. They combine the resistance required for demanding spaces with almost unlimited design possibilities.
This means that the architect, designer, or investor is not limited by standard tile formats, grouts, or existing decors, but can develop a motif that is entirely adapted to the project.
In other words, a wall no longer has to be just a technical solution. It can become part of the space's experience.

Our role in the project
In the Balance Mediterranean Spa Center project, we participated throughout the entire process of executing the wallpapers.
The project included:
-
adapting the motif to the dimensions of the space
-
preparation for printing
-
printing the motif on fiberglass wallpaper
-
professional installation on-site
Approximately 100 m² of wallpaper was installed in total.
Each segment of the motif was adapted to the specific dimensions of the space so that the investor's visual concept could be seamlessly implemented throughout the entire wellness center.
After installation, the surfaces were additionally protected with a two-component system of protective coatings applied in two layers, 24 hours apart. This resulted in a moisture-resistant surface suitable for daily maintenance in a wellness environment.
Fiberglass wallpaper installation
What are these solutions called?
In the market, these systems are known by various names such as waterproof wallpapers, fiberglass wallpapers, wallpapers for wellness areas, or glass fiber wall coverings.
Regardless of the name, these are solutions that allow for the application of personalized motifs on surfaces exposed to water, moisture, and frequent maintenance.
Their greatest advantage is the ability to combine functionality and design. While classic solutions like ceramics primarily address the technical requirements of a space, these systems enable the creation of a unique visual identity without sacrificing durability and easy maintenance.
This is why they are increasingly used in wellness centers, hotel bathrooms, spa zones, beauty centers, and other hospitality projects where it is important to combine material durability with high-quality space design. Today, architects and designers increasingly choose them for decorating wellness centers, spa zones, and hotel interiors where moisture resistance, easy maintenance, and a completely customized design are required.
Can wallpapers be used in wellness centers and bathrooms?
This is one of the questions we most often receive from investors, architects, and interior designers.
The answer is yes, but not just any wallpaper.
Classic decorative wallpapers are not designed for areas with increased humidity and intensive maintenance.
For such projects, special systems like fiberglass wallpapers are used, which, after proper installation and final protection, can meet the demands of spaces such as:
-
wellness centers
-
spa zones
-
hotel bathrooms
-
healthcare facilities
-
beauty centers
-
medical centers
That is why they are increasingly used in higher-category hospitality projects.
Why do architects and investors increasingly choose fiberglass wallpapers?
The reason is not just durability.
The true value of such systems lies in the ability for a functional wall to become part of the design concept.
Fiberglass wallpapers enable:
-
resistance to moisture and frequent cleaning
-
high mechanical resistance
-
long lifespan
-
easy maintenance
-
execution of completely customized motifs
-
flawless appearance of large surfaces
-
greater design freedom
For the investor, this means a long-lasting and practical solution.
For the architect and designer, greater creative freedom.
For the guest, a more pleasant and recognizable space.
More than wall decoration
What is particularly interesting about this project is the fact that the wallpaper was not used as a classic wall decoration.
It is integrated into the niches and architectural elements of the space, becoming an integral part of the overall wellness center concept.
This is precisely where we see the greatest potential of such solutions.
When functionality and aesthetics cease to be a compromise, spaces are created that leave an impression.
The Balance Mediterranean Spa Center project at Hotel Meteor shows how waterproof fiberglass wallpapers can be an interesting alternative to ceramics when an investor wants to combine durability, easy maintenance, and a completely personalized design.
Because sometimes a wall is not just a background.
Sometimes it becomes part of the experience that the guest takes with them.
